Review: FENTY BEAUTY BY RIHANNA Match Stix Trio in Medium 200

I am a longtime RiRi fan; lover her music, her style, her puma collaboration, basically anything she does is pure gold. I had absolutely 0 doubts in my mind that her makeup line would be anything less than amazing. It was quite the well rounded collection containing a variety of products. After hearing mainly favourable reviews, I splurged and picked up a few different items from her line. Although this one was not meant to be for me, as you will soon read, her other products, which I will be writing reviews on soon, worked out much better for me.

Today’s review is on the Match Stix Trio in the shade Medium 200. It includes two Match Stix Matte Skinsticks and one Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks. The shades include Bamboo (yellow toned medium shade) to conceal, Mocha (warm toned medium shade) to contour, and Trippin (warm toned peachy/gold shade) as a highlighter/illuminator. Let’s get down to this review now. The packaging is such a unique idea, blush coloured, hexagon shaped, and magnetized. Colour wise, I found Medium 200 to be a little dark for my skin tone. Bamboo was darker than my foundation, Mocha was one hell of a dark contour, but Trippin was an ideal highlight on my skin. Formula wise, it states on Sephora’s website that it is a cream to powder formula. I found it to be quite dry upon application. The conceal shade emphasized the wrinkles under my eyes while the contour shade was very time consuming to blend out. All three were very pigmented and long wearing and did not require anything to set it as they dried down to a powder like finish. I didn’t find them to feel heavy on my skin which I also enjoyed. I believe I will end up returning this due to finding them too dry for my skin as well as the conceal and contour shade being too dark for my skintone. Although, I may pick up the highlighter shade as I adored it due to it being very to Nars Orgasm blush/highlighter. One of the best parts about this product is that Rihanna, being the genius that she is, made four Match Stix Trio sets available in different skin tones (Light 100, Medium 200, Tan 300, Deep 400). As well as if you can’t find a pre-made set that suits you, need a replacement, or only want one product in particular you have huge variety of Match Stix Matte Skinsticks (20 shades to choose from) and Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks (10 shades to choose from) to choose from. Each skinstick includes 0.25 oz/ 7.10 g of product. It retails for $63.00 (Canadian) which is a $93.00 (Canadian) value.

Pros:

  1. Convenient magnetic packaging, keeps your products conveniently together and gives you the choice to stick them together as you like
  2.  Shade selection, four different pre-packaged trio sets available to choose from (Light 100, Medium 200, Tan 300, Deep 400)
  3. Matte finish, they dry down to a powder-like finish which doesn’t require any need to be set in place
  4. Pigmented, honestly takes about one swipe to get impressive colour build up
  5. Lightweight feel, I always worry that pigmentation will come with a heavy feel but no need to worry
  6. Price, It retails for $63.00 (Canadian) which is a $93.00 (Canadian) value if you were to purchase each product separately.

Cons:

  1. Dry formula, these Skinsticks are on the drier side and require a little more effort to blend out and can emphasize fine lines
  2. Pre-made trio sets, it would be cool if you could select the shades you wanted to be in a trio set
